It’s not very often that I do a site visit at a new hotel or venue and get immediately blown away by it.

The Doubletree by Hilton Liverpool is one of those venues. Initially I just thought it was going to be another typical sterile Hilton property, looking and feeling like 50 other hotels I have been in.

This is not the case at this venue. The beauty of this place lies in the history of the building. It was previously a gentlemen’s club and I take my hat off to the guys who turned it into a hotel.

So many original features have been preserved which gives this venue it’s character aund charm. A grand private entrance manned by your own personal doorman escorting guests along a red carpet to a grand staircase straight away creates a wow effect for any evening arrivals.

There are four event spaces at the property, The Corinthian Grand, Cannon Suite, Deacon Suite and the Library  Lounge. Both the larger suites can hold 100 delegates cabaret style and work well for a conference or meeting. Its also a great space for a gala dinner or reception.

The food offering is good quality and of course the Hilton cookies are k welcome at any break. Lunch is served in the hotel restaurant on the ground floor. It is a nice space with natural daylight. The only problem i found here was that the serving area is quite small and leads to long queues when all your delegates descend at once. Its not ideal but one way to deal with this is to stagger delegates coming to lunch just to ease the mayhem.

Another gem that this venue offers is the library bar. It is a warm and charming space, great for drink receptions or coffee breaks, probably my favourite space at the venue!

The bedrooms are another reason why i love this venue. One of the executive rooms i saw was like a duplex studio apartment. An original metal spiral staircase had been used to create an entrance to a bathroom situated upstairs. Great use of the feature and also made the room feel very big.

Although i did feel that the venue was still getting to grips with the demands of the corporate client i do think it has alot to offer a medium sized meeting, in a central location.

Faulty gives this venue a 4 star rating.
